CertaPro Painters evolved from Protec Painting and Decorating, a third generation company established in 1978 by Jason Duke and Philip Duke Jr. under the name of Protec Contracting. Phil was already the second generation of the Duke family in the painting and decorating business. Phil Sr. had been a retailer in the painting and decorating industry for 20 years when Phil Jr. entered into partnership with his father in 1969, operating The Paint Place and Phil's Paint Center on Albert Street until 1978. Phil closed the store and continued as a painting contractor under the name Protec Contracting. Phil remains as active and integral part of CertaPro Painters. Jason's painting experience began with working in the paint store and then as a laborer on his father's projects. Jason took on summer employment with other painting companies while attending university. He was soon given large responsibilities. His employers continually entrusted his trouble shooting and job planning abilities. Jason's time with other contractors produced a broader perspective and a chance to fine tune his management and technical skills. In April of 1988, Jason became the sole owner of Protec Painting and decorating, which initially performed commercial contracts, then expanded into the residential sector. Protec merged with CertaPro Painters in 1991. Jason is the Painting, Wall covering and Special Wall Coating Trade Technical Representative for the Saskatchewan Bid Depository for five years running. He holds this position due to his knowledge of the industry and the products being produced and used in today's commercial and residential markets.
